This practical guide provides information on how to manage hazardous substances in your workplace safely.
The Practical guide(external link) can be found on the Toolbox website, www.hazardoussubstances.govt.nz(external link)
It provides information on the ways you can manage the hazardous substances you use, handle, manufacture and store at work more safely. It also helps you to meet your obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act (HSWA) and the Health and Safety at Work (Hazardous Substances) Regulations (the Regulations). It is a reference document about what you need to do and how to do it.
While it helps you improve your compliance, it does not contain information about every control, or detailed information about transporting or disposing of substances, or about explosives.
Use this guide alongside our other guidance and the Hazardous Substances Calculator available at: www.hazardoussubstances.govt.nz(external link)
