The victim’s family friend hired a trailer from GFEHL via Facebook Marketplace to collect a trailer to tow a vehicle from near Rotorua to Auckland. The group including friends, a father and his two children (one deceased) travelled in a vehicle with the trailer in tow (4 adults and 2 kids).
Around 9pm the group had collected the vehicle near Rotorua, loaded it onto the trailer and began the return journey towards Auckland. The trailer began to fishtail, the vehicle and trailer then flipped over and came to rest back on its wheels. The young son had undone his seat belt and suffered fatal injuries.
