If someone has been seriously injured, become seriously ill, or died as a result of work – phone us on 0800 030 040 straight away. We have staff available to respond to these 24/7.

Notifications made through our online form won't be monitored between 12pm on Tuesday 24 December 2024 and 8.30am on Monday 6 January 2025.
If you’re not sure if you need to notify us, use our online notification system and we’ll respond to you after 6 January 2025.

Court Summary - at a glance
- Develop a clear understanding of the scaffolding required prior to supplying and installing it. This could include viewing the drawings or plans and discussing the requirements with site management and scaffold users;
- Ensure employees installing scaffolding are sufficiently trained or have sufficient experience, or are supervised by someone with sufficient training and experience, to install scaffolding;
- Ensure scaffolding is fit for purpose, including ensuring that guardrails and midrails are provided on exposed parts of working platforms; that access to working platforms was adequate and safe; that the ladder access opening is protected by either a hatch, gate or similar; and that gable-end edge protection is installed;
- Inspect and certify scaffolding to ensure it is safe for use; and
- Ensure adequate information is provided to scaffolding users, including but not limited to, using a scaffold tag or handover certificate citing the limitations of use.
The Defendant was contracted to provide and install scaffold and safety nets at a residential construction site. The scaffold installed was not compliant with good practice which could have caused serious injury to users.
