We are seeking feedback on our draft good practice guidelines, Secondary containment systems: Guidance for PCBUs.

Under the Health and Safety at Work (Hazardous Substances) Regulations 2017, hazardous substances that are liquids, or are likely to liquefy in a fire, are required to be captured in the event they are released from their primary container. This is achieved by means of a secondary containment system.

These draft guidelines seek to address some of the range of secondary containment options a PCBU is likely to consider when developing a new site or making significant changes to an existing site. They will replace the Code of Practice HSNOCOP 47 Secondary Containment Systems which was approved under the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996 (HSNO Act).
