Outcome of investigation:
Energy Safety investigated an explosion involving a gas heater. A technician visited the property to investigate the cause of the explosion and found that the pilot jet was not installed inside the pilot burner. This would cause an explosion once the heater went through the ignition sequence and released gas into the combustion chamber. The gas would build up at a greater rate and amount than the manufacturer designed for and would have exploded on ignition.
Energy Safety has determined that the incident happened during the testing phase of the gasfitter’s work. This enabled the fault to be found and the gas fire was able to be repaired before bringing it back into service.
