Energy Safety was unable to obtain objective evidence and referred the fire to the alleged manufacturer's representative for further investigation. The fire damage destroyed all identification markings so the make and model of the washing machine could not be confirmed and scene photographs were unavailable. The alleged manufacturer was unable to determine, from the evidence available, whether the machine involved was the cause of fire.
Energy Safety considers the washing machine to be the likely cause of the fire based on verbal information obtained from the attending fire officer. He confirmed that the fire patterns indicated that the unidentifiable washing machine was the cause of the fire which significantly damaged the tenanted property.
