Bird strikes occur occasionally and are known to bring down high voltage transmission lines. In this case a worker exiting a removal van parked under the lines when the cable fell onto it may have received an electric shock, or alternatively fell from the van when the cable fell. The latter is more likely given that the network protection system protection will have operated almost instantaneously when the two phases short circuited when the birds hit. The victim was sent to hospital, but returned later that same day to collect his belongings indicating no significant injury was sustained.
