New rules regarding the supply of Declared Articles in New Zealand

This guidance is for any person that tests, certifies, imports, supplies or manufactures electrical and electronic products and equipment for New Zealand.

Electrical safety compliance

All suppliers and manufacturers of electrical products in New Zealand have to ensure those products are safe. This includes meeting essential standards, showing regulatory compliance marks, and conforming to other regulations.

High and medium risk products

High risk products are referred to as Declared High Risk Articles. Only us or another recognised agency can approve a high risk article.

Product information

We produce guidance for the electricity industry on specific issues relating to products as they are brought to our attention. This information includes product specific installation requirements, technical information, highlighted safety issues and products that have been prohibited.

Second-hand appliances

All second-hand electrical appliances sold in New Zealand must be electrically safe. A second-hand electrical appliance cannot be sold or used unless it meets certain fundamental safety requirements.

Electrical marks

The same mark is used to indicate compliance for electrical products and installed prescribed electrical works.
