Notifications
If someone has been seriously injured, become seriously ill, or died as a result of work – phone us on 0800 030 040 straight away. We have staff available to respond to these 24/7.

Notifications made through our online form won't be monitored between 12pm on Tuesday 24 December 2024 and 8.30am on Monday 6 January 2025.
If you’re not sure if you need to notify us, use our online notification system and we’ll respond to you after 6 January 2025.

The Health and Safety at Work (Hazardous Substances—Polyethylene Above Ground Stationary Tanks for Diesel Fuel) Safe Work Instrument 2017 sets requirements for the design and construction of a tank (including its integral secondary containment system), the venting, marking, installation, inspection and testing of a tank, and the design, construction, and installation of a liquid level indicator.

- are a compilation of a principal (original) SWI and its amendment/s
- are based on the law as it stood at the time the SWI was consolidated
- are for reference only and have no official status.

The standards incorporated by reference in the safe works instrument are subject to copyright and can be purchased from their publishers or viewed at WorkSafe New Zealand.

Viewing incorporated material at WorkSafe
The location of the WorkSafe New Zealand office has changed since the Gazette notice was published.
The standards are available for inspection, at no charge, between 9.00am and 5.00pm from Monday to Friday (excluding statutory holidays) at WorkSafe New Zealand, located at 8 Willis Street, Wellington 6011.
