The Defendant is a roofing contractor and was engaged on a labour-only basis by a co-defendant Graham Hill Roofing Limited to install edge protection and carry out roofing work at a large commercial construction site. The victim was carrying out work on a work trial / work experience basis for the Defendant. On the day of the accident five workers were using edge protection installed by the Defendant to cross a roof. The victim slipped against the edge protection and it gave way. He fell over 8 metres to the ground and suffered severe injuries.
