The Defendant is a roofing contractor and engaged its co-defendant Luke Martin Roofing Limited to install edge protection and carry out roofing work on a ‘labour only’ basis at a large commercial construction site. The victim was carrying out work on a work trial / work experience basis for Luke Martin Roofing. On the day of the accident five workers were using edge protection provided by the Defendant and installed by Luke Martin Roofing to cross a roof. The victim slipped against the edge protection and it gave way. He fell over 8 metres to the ground and suffered severe injuries.
