Pathways Awarua is a free online literacy and numeracy learning tool that supports adults to strengthen their numeracy and literacy skills for work and for life in a fun and simple way. It is made up of pathways of modules for learners to complete at their own pace. It's highly visual, interactive, and engaging, and provides learners with immediate customised feedback.
Developed in association with WorkSafe, Pathways Awarua is part of the suite of national resources developed by the Tertiary Education Commission to support adult learners to strengthen their literacy and numeracy competencies.
The tool includes 21 separate modules that are designed to help people learn to read while learning about health and safety in the workplace.
The ability to read and write is fundamental to participating in health and safety processes and training in the workplace.
The pathway tool is designed to guide people on keeping themselves and their workmates healthy and safe. It helps people learn to read while covering some of the key things they should know about the new Health and Safety at Work Act.
Each of the learning modules are based around simple and realistic examples. The modules also cover several important health and safety topics, including health and safety induction, risk management, emergency preparedness, safety signage and documentation.
The tool was developed in cooperation with WorkSafe, the Industry Training Federation and the Tertiary Education Commission.
The tool is free for anyone who wants to learn more about workplace health and safety.
