FENZ determined that the point of fire origin was where the battery charger had been situated. The battery under charge was also confirmed by FENZ as being unlikely to have been the cause of this fire. WorkSafe considered that the tripping of MCB indicated that a short-circuit malfunction had occurred within the unidentified charger and that the charger was therefore the likely cause of the fire.
