The quick guide to changes to hazardous substances regulations and interpretive guidelines on the new rules for hazardous substances provides information on the key changes introduced by the Health and Safety at Work (Hazardous Substances) Regulations 2017.
Most requirements transfer directly from the previous regulations under the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms (HSNO) Act and stay the same, but there are some changes.
These guides highlight the key changes. They do not list every requirement or control for working with hazardous substances.
The Quick guide to changes to hazardous substances regulations is an overview of the major changes.
The Interpretive Guidelines to changes to the Regulations for hazardous substances in the workplace provides more detail on the changes that affect most businesses.
There are examples of changes to storage requirements, transit depots, tank wagons and requirements for substance classes that may apply to you depending on the type and quantity of hazardous substances in your workplace.
For a complete overview of all the controls and requirements you have to follow if you work with hazardous substances, you should also read our other guidance and use the tools from the Hazardous Substances Toolbox, available at:Â www.hazardoussubstances.govt.nz
