Notifications made through our online form won't be monitored between 12pm on Tuesday 24 December 2024 and 8.30am on Monday 6 January 2025.

A compliance certifier is an individual or non-individual (a body corporate) authorised by WorkSafe to issue compliance certificates. A compliance certificate confirms that an individual, site and/or equipment is compliant with the Health and Safety at Work (Hazardous Substances) Regulations 2017.
To be granted authorisation as a compliance certifier, you are required to demonstrate you have sufficient qualifications and experience with hazardous substances and/or associated equipment and that you are a fit and proper person.

Application fees
Fees for authorisation as a compliance certifier are specified in Schedule 2 of the Health and Safety at Work (Hazardous Substances) Regulations 2017. Â These are summarised below:

Authorised compliance certifiers
Authorisation as a compliance certifier is specific to the person’s knowledge and experience. This is set out in the scope of authorisation, which specifies the types of compliance certificates the compliance certifier can issue.Â
An authorisation as a compliance certifier can be granted for up to 5 years.
All authorised compliance certifiers are listed on the register of compliance certifiers(external link).
WorkSafe monitors the performance of compliance certifiers to ensure they comply with the regulations and carry out their functions in an objective manner that promotes safety.
Compliance certifier application
To apply as an individual to become a compliance certifier, renew and/or vary your authorisation, complete the form: Application for authorisation as compliance certifier (individual)
For a non-individual (a body corporate) to apply to become a compliance certifier, renew and/or vary an authorisation, complete the form: Application for authorisation as compliance certifier (body corporate)
An applicant for authorisation as compliance certifier must also complete a Fit and proper assessment form

New applicants for authorisation as a compliance certifier or compliance certifiers applying to vary the scope and/or conditions of their authorisation may use the following annexes to demonstrate their knowledge and experience.

Auditing of compliance certifiers
Compliance certifiers must be audited by WorkSafe at least every four years to verify they are working within the scope of their authorisation and meeting legal requirements.
