Forestry work is often carried out on remote work sites with limited access to basic services such as electricity and water supplies. Business and contractors involved in forestry need to take steps to meet the needs of their workers in these environments.
While this guidance has not been updated to reflect current work health and safety legislation (the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and regulations), it may still contain relevant information and practices to keep workers and others healthy and safe.
Please read this guidance in conjunction with all relevant industry standards that apply to you as a PCBU. This guidance will be progressively reviewed and either updated, replaced with other guidance, or revoked.
We have produced guidance on providing toilets for workers at forestry sites.
Section 1.2 of Guidelines for the Provision of Facilities and General Safety and Health in Forestry Work (page 11) still provides useful guidance on providing toilets.
For guidance on the current regulatory requirements for workplace facilities including drinking water, toilets, seating, washing, changing and eating facilities, first aid, personal protective equipment, training, monitoring and emergency planning  please refer to General Risk and Workplace Management (Part 1)  Requirements for workplaces and facilities, information, training, instruction and supervision, personal protective equipment, monitoring, first aid, emergency plans and young people.
