Five highly experienced extractives industry practitioners have been appointed for three year terms to the New Zealand Mining Board of Examiners.
The five include returning members Steve Bell and Michelle Crompton. The new members are Rory Bishop, Garth Elliott and Tim Kennedy.
These changes are part of the regular cycle that all boards go through as terms end and the mix of skills of the members is reviewed and adjusted to meet requirements.
“All the board members bring a valuable mix of skills, experience and knowledge of the extractives sector, as well as a passion for and strong commitment to health and safety in the extractives industry,” said WorkSafe New Zealand Chief Executive Nicole Rosie.
Ms Rosie said it was particularly pleasing to see a member from the tunnelling sector had come onto the Board.
The new appointees bring valuable experience from three different sectors:
- Rory Bishop comes to the Board with over 20 years’ experience in the civil engineering tunnels sector in both the United Kingdom and New Zealand. He has been Chair of the Australasian Branch of the Tunnelling Society.
- Garth Elliott who has over 30 years’ experience in mining brings his union background to the Board.
- Tim Kennedy, with over 30 years’ quarrying experience in New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific and work as a workplace tutor, will bring another voice from the quarrying sector to the Board.
