We are delighted to announce the appointment of Mike Hargreaves as our new General Manager for the Better Regulation and Legal Groups.
This new position follows the reshaping of our senior leadership team last year to establish a Chief Operating Officer role. The GM for Better Regulation and Legal holds a pivotal senior leadership role with accountability for approximately 85 staff.
Chief Executive Nicole Rosie says Mike was the outstanding candidate for this role. He has a passion for the organisation and huge experience and commitment to the areas of regulation and law.
“Mike comes from a strong legal background relating to workplace health and safety. He’s a qualified lawyer who began working in the health and safety area when he joined the Department of Labour in 2002.
"He has been involved in major regulatory change with the introduction of the Health and Safety at Work Act and has been involved in a number of significant enforcement and prosecution actions including those relating to the Sir Edmund Hillary Outdoor Pursuits Centre following the Mangatepopo canyoning tragedy in 2008 and the Pike River Mine tragedy. He has overseen WorkSafe's first prosecutions under the Health and Safety at Work Act and the establishment of its enforceable undertaking regime, a new alternative to prosecution which is legally binding.”
Mike was previously WorkSafe’s Chief Legal Advisor and has been Acting-General Manager for Better Regulation since November 2017.
