We are working this Asbestos Awareness Week (November 20–26 2023) to remind tradies and businesses that there are no more excuses for not protecting workers from the risk of asbestos exposure.

Asbestos exposure is New Zealand’s number one workplace killer. Despite the serious health risks of asbestos exposure being widely known for 80+ years, around 220 people die each year from asbestos-related disease.

Resources

Businesses are required to identify and manage risks associated with asbestos exposure. This includes completing an asbestos management plan if required.

For the public, WorkSafe maintains the register of licensed asbestos removalists.

Find out more about these on the Asbestos section of our website

Stakeholder campaign pack

To assist with raising awareness, stakeholders can download a pack which provides a range of Asbestos Awareness Week assets for organisations and individuals to use.

Where possible, link your audiences through to www.worksafe.govt.nz/asbestos for more information.
